What is an Intragastric Balloon?

This procedure involves the insertion of a silicone balloon in your stomach. The intervention is done endoscopically, so no incision or stitches are required.

The process takes around 20 minutes and you can be discharged 2 hours after the insertion.

An intragastric balloon may be an option for you if:
• Your body mass index (BMI) is between 30 and 40
• You’re willing to commit to healthy lifestyle changes, get regular medical follow-up and participate in behavioural therapy
• You have not had any previous stomach or oesophageal surgery

Intragastric balloons aren’t the right choice for everyone who is overweight. Dr. Khaleal will through a screening process assess if the procedure might be beneficial for you.
